![]() Verify that the machine's power switch is turned off.ĥ. If the Brother machine is currently plugged into an outlet which does NOT lose power when the Brother machine is used, go to step 7.Ĥ. If the Brother machine is plugged into an outlet which loses power when the Brother machine is used, go to step 4. Brother has recently become aware of this misdetection occurring with specific products and has developed a firmware update to resolve the situation. AFCIs can mistake the normal operation of some devices as an arc fault and trip unnecessarily. AFCIs are safety devices designed to trip when certain conditions are detected on the electrical circuit in order to prevent house fires. A circuit breaker with a button on it is most likely an Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI). Please note that devices which run on battery power but are also plugged into an AC electrical outlet, such as laptop computers and battery back-up units, may appear to be on a separate circuit since they remain on when the circuit breaker is tripped but will contribute to current drain if they are still plugged into an outlet on the same circuit.ģ. Such devices may include, but are not limited to, overhead lighting, ceiling fans, battery back-up units, surge protection devices and power strips and may also include devices which are plugged into AC electrical outlets outside of the room where the Brother machine is located. It is likely that additional devices are still connected to the same circuit. If NO, then the circuit breaker is likely being tripped due to the maximum amperage of the electrical circuit being exceeded by the combination of the connected devices. Is there a button on the tripped circuit breaker? This button will most likely be labeled with the word 'Test'. If you have a question about the maximum amperage that your electrical circuit can handle, you should consult a qualified electrician.Ģ. The current drain will be at the peak value for only an instant at a time, but if the sum of the total current drain of all other devices connected to the circuit in addition to the 10 Amp peak of the Brother machine exceeds the rated current of the circuit breaker, the circuit breaker will disable the power circuit as intended by its design. However, during the warm-up process and at times during the printing process, the instantaneous current drain of the Brother machine may reach a peak of up to 10 Amps. The average operating current of the Brother machine while printing is approximately 6.5 Amps. Most household circuits and circuit breakers are rated for a current of either 15 or 20 Amps. If the circuit breaker is NOT tripped when the Brother machine is the only device on the circuit, then the circuit breaker is being tripped due to the maximum amperage of the electrical circuit being exceeded by the combination of the connected devices. ![]() If the circuit breaker is tripped when the Brother machine is the only device on the circuit, go to step 2. Is the circuit breaker is tripped when the Brother machine is the only device connected to the affected circuit? Please be aware that this includes any battery back-up devices, surge protection devices and power strips and may include devices which are plugged into AC electrical outlets outside of the room where the Brother machine is located. A circuit breaker tripping when using the Brother machine is most likely caused by too many devices being plugged into the same power circuit:Ī. If the Brother machine and other devices lose power but a circuit breaker is NOT tripped, refer to: 'Computer or router reboots, restarts, shuts down, or enters hibernation mode when the Brother machine is powered on or starts printing'ġ. If a circuit breaker is tripped when the Brother machine warms up, go to step 1. This means that one or more AC electrical outlets are turned off completely and are unable to function until a circuit breaker switch in the circuit breaker panel is reset to the ON position. This solution is to be followed only if a circuit breaker is being tripped when the Brother machine is used or turned on. ![]()
